The Ferry Building on the Embarcadero in San Francisco. The man planted in the center was banging away on a drum kit comprised of plastic garbage cans, spoons, and other everyday items.
Skateboarders weaved among tourists in the Justin Herman Plaza, a concrete space across the street from the Ferry Building and right in front of Embarcadero Center.
There were about a dozen stands, mostly selling handcrafted works.
The buildings of the financial district, towering nearby.
Armand Vaillancourt's sculpture, "Québec libre !" Commissioned by the city of San Francisco, it was completed in 1971. Kids were happily frolicking in the water. fountain The sculpture so representative of San Francisco actually carries a strong political statement, but in reference to Quebec's sovereignty movement. A zipline had been erected behind, allowing people to zip straight across the Plaza (for $29.00). Great fun.
